We all bring unconscious biases into the workplace. These deeply subconscious attitudes span race, gender, appearance, age, wealth and much more. They influence everything from the car you drive to the employee you promote and the one you don’t. These hidden drivers can impact many business areas, from impairing diversity and retention rates to promoting a disconnected culture. Unconscious bias also undermines recruiting efforts and employee development, which can be destabilizing to an organization.
It is not about bias towards men or women. It is not a women issue, it is a human issue that we are dealing with. Without being aware of it, we all have biases that affect how we view the world. Do this mean we are wrong? Absolutely not. Our minds get influenced by our experiences and the people around us. Movies, media, and people condition us.
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly referred to as the ‘POSH Act’ is an Indian law enacted to make workplaces safer for women by preventing, prohibiting and redressing acts of sexual harassment against them in the workplace. The law was made effective in the whole of India on December 9, 2013, by the Ministry for Women and Child Development.
No doubt the training session on POSH gives us clarity on sexual harassment. The way Dr. Aparna delivered the training was appreciable, she makes training session interactive and easily understandable.
